Research Into Aperture
Secondary Sources
Through using a wide aperture the photographer has achieved a small depth of field, with the insect's eyes in focus, and it's body slowly becoming more blurred. The aperture also causes the image to become darker, so a faster shutter speed would have been used to make the image more visible. This technique is useful in order to see detail that may not be possible to see with the naked eye, such as the intricate detail in the insect's eyes.
This image uses a wide aperture to create a dramatic depth of field, blurring out the background to draw attention to the grass in the foreground. This is especially useful as the bright purples and greens would overpower the image if they had been in full focus, whereas by blurring the background the image is softened slightly, and a more dreamlike, relaxed feeling is achieved.

By using a small aperture, the full image remains in focus and the viewer can see detail in the entirety of the landscape. This helps create the impact of the beauty of the landscape, keeping everything in focus so relying on the positioning of subjects (such as the hay bale) to draw the eye, rather than being forced to only focus on one thing. This image appears to be slightly dark, which could be due to the small aperture limiting the amount of light through the lens. A slower shutter speed would have perhaps been advised, but that would have caused more motion blur on the clouds which may have ruined the effect.
In this photograph a small aperture has been used to keep the detail in the image crisp and focused. The trees look sharp and although the mountains in the background are further away, there is still good detail on them. A small aperture is important to use in landscape photography in order to capture the detail that the photographer is trying to present.

For this photograph I used a wide aperture to create a small depth of field so that only part of the text was easily readable, so draws attention towards the center of the image. This can be used to highlight a quote, or just create a nice effect like I did in this image. This can create a dramatic effect, depending on what the quote in focus is. In my photo the quote is not fully in focus, or a full sentence, so it detracts from the impact of the image a little.
I used a small aperture in this photograph to get a clear shot of the landscape. This makes the whole image be clear and in focus, and makes the detail stand out, to show the texture of the grass and heather stand out much more. This is effective for this style of photograph, because the detail is what is important, rather than having a single focal point.
